WHS REFRESHER COURSES

Approved by Comcare for remote learning on

We are approved by Comcare to conduct our approved WHS programs without the normal face-to-face requirements.
The course can be delivered by the virtual conferencing platform preferred by the client (such as Teams, Webex or the security-upgraded Zoom platform.)

Comcare advises this is only a temporary arrangement due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that approved delivery strategies and AQF competency requirements must continue to be met.

All elected health and safety representatives (HSRs) are entitled to undertake Initial and annual Refresher WHS training approved by Comcare. The entitlement to attend a refresher course applies to all HSRs, one year after they have completed a 5-day initial course.

It builds on the learning outcomes from the five-day initial WHS course, review the experiences of HSRs, discuss developments in WHS and develop knowledge and practical skills of HSRs to enable them to be effective partners in their organisation's WHS processes.

Not sure if WHS training will work on Zoom? Here is what our participants have said:

  •  On-line training is ideal (COC)
  • On-line format is by far the best format for our area (remote schools) (PN)
  • A great facilitator ... who has accommodated to working on Zoom, and is more confident on it than anyone I have seen is a testament to the pride he takes in his work and his commitment to health and safety. It was a pleasure to meet him and I really enjoyed my Fridays with the group. I am sad they are over. (AC)
  • Was an excellent training seminar and I felt you guys did a fantastic job delivering it electronically remotely during Covid19 Social restrictions (AH).
  • Zoom worked well (MB et al).
  • In accordance with sec. 72 of the WHS Act, HSRs are able to choose the course they wish to attend in consultation with their employer, including whether they participate in connected, real time delivery or face-to-face learning when it resumes after the COVID-19 period.
  • If a participant does not have the appropriate training resources, IT infrastructure and ergonomic work station prior to training commencing, we advise participants to defer attendance until face-to-face training is available.
  • HSRs need to be comfortable with their learning environment and participate in HSR training away from any workplace distractions.
  • HSRs should not be expected to complete their usual workplace duties before or after they have attended training.
Although primarily designed for HSRs, the training is not just for them – managers and supervisors (who have the legal duties for WHS), members of Health and Safety Committees and indeed, any other employees who wish to review their understanding of current WHS requirements and practices for making their work and workplaces healthy and safe – will benefit from attending the course.
